These shoes do come with a strong smell at first. BUT it fades quickly. That is the price you pay for real leather. They aired out with in a few hours and I felt they were ready to go. My son has very fat feet and refuses to wear any type of shoe. These shoes are the only ones that he will wear all day long and never take off. We do put socks on under them otherwise they leave a little black residue on his feet. I am planning on purchasing some more shoes from this company since we are wearing these almost every day. They are white on bottom so staining is an issue if you go outside with them. They are great for kids learning to walk or still crawling. For the price these are a steal.
