Model MB882SP-1S-1B - CUSTOMER ALERT

I first purchased the MB882SP-1S-1B and used it to install a new SSD in my iMac. When I reconnected all the cables and checked the drive, the machine didn't recognize it. Nothing. Nada. So we proceeded in reverse order, dismantling and testing all components individually. The old drive was dead, the new drive worked fine and was formatted for the operating system, the thermal sensor is ready to use. that just left this converter/housing. We've concluded that the clamshell design, intended to snap the new hard drive's connectors into place when the box is closed, doesn't work well enough to really push it all the way in. We tried bending the metal on the back. to get more excitement. Nothing. When booting the computer, the hard drive is still not recognized. As a last resort and hoping we were right that the case was the problem, we ordered the MB882SP-1S-3B as this case allows you to manually plug the hard drive into the connectors yourself. Tried it out as soon as it arrived - snap the connections back into place, shut down the computer again, switch it on and boom, here's the hard drive. I have to imagine MANY people would give up after seeing the hard drive not being recognized. Or at least they would assume something was wrong with the drive or the wiring. nope It's a silly clamshell case design. DO NOT BUY MODEL 1B. Buy a 3B or at least another brand or version that doesn't have that horribly engineered mechanism inside that doesn't let you connect the hard drive yourself.
