I never used the pack or played at home so during our first night at a hotel I was appalled at the thin, hard cardboard mattress that came with the Pack n Play Hotel. How could my son sleep on it all night? Well, luckily for us, it did, but I was very worried about the mattress at first, so when we got home I decided to find some kind of "mattress pad". We decided to give this MamaDoo Collapsible Mattress Pad a try. Despite the price, we loved it! It just seems like it gives the baby a much more comfortable night's sleep. I like that it folds up and is easy to take with you when you travel. It also fits snugly and snugly in the backpack and in the game, making it feel secure. I don't remember the smell from the mattress either. Overall I would recommend if you want your child to sleep comfortably while traveling.
