I've only had it a month so still needs long term testing. There are a few design flaws, but nothing critical. - Metal wire does not scratch the edges of the burner, so the popcorn does not fly off the wall and does not heat up. You have to shake it a few times while popping to get them. It would be better if the wires were long and twisted up and forward so the grains could be pushed onto the burner. - The measuring cup does not stay on the bottom of the bowl, so it is dangerous to put it upside down or use it as a bowl. I don't know if it's a design issue or mine is defective. - The holes for melting the butter at the top of the bowl need to be softened or it won't melt fast enough. ***** If you have grip/hand strength issues this is not for you as you have to flip the entire mechanism to get the popcorn into the bowl. It's not heavy, just bulky, especially when the bottom of the bowl isn't fixed. The ease of use is amazing. I can turn it on, let go and do something in the kitchen while it pops, shake it a few times and get the perfect popcorn. It also takes up a lot of space, so it is suitable for large families. Ultimately, yes it can be done with some minor design tweaks, but overall it's a decent product.
