I bought these for an old 2 drawer filing cabinet with no drawer dividers. I needed this to fit exactly 12 inches of space. I pressed the first one without the rubber stops and it barely went in. I squeezed the second one and the plastic piece on the end holding the spring broke. I collected it as best I could and put it in a box. Until I shoot it works great. I have to be careful when removing it in the future as it might bounce around the room. The plastic looks strong enough, the spring is strong. It will absolutely not be less than 12 inches. The rubber feet are just little squares that need to be peeled off and placed on the four corners of each end piece. The sticker behind it didn't peel off the rubber support well, so be warned. A feasible product for the price.
