Review on Tecsun PL398MP DSP Digital AM/FM/LW Shortwave Radio: Dual Speakers & MP3 Player, Black - The Ultimate Audio Solution by Aneta Gsiewska ᠌

Im amazed! It was definitely worth the money!

I have several receivers of the Tecsun brand, I can say the following about this receiver. He had a predecessor Tecsun PL-390, in terms of comparison with this receiver, the 398th has a lot of minuses 1) At 390 the sound was much better, the stereo is amazing. On the 398th stereo is bad. In defense, I can say this is the only receiver with stereo sound on the speakers 2) Larger dimensions, it is thicker and larger. If it's because of the MP3 player, then it's only for the worse. 3) 390 and 398 suffers from freezing that you have to pull out the batteries, on expensive Tecsun models there is a special "RESET" button for this, they did not do it here. 4) Newer Tecsun models have an 18650 battery, and here there are AA batteries of a non-standard number of 3 pieces, neither here nor there. 5) The MP3 player is very primitive and it is clearly superfluous here. 6) PL390 as its predecessor was much better, though without MP3 and unfortunately removed from sale. In general, the receiver is excellent, although it has its drawbacks, but also a bunch of pluses. This receiver is the only one from the brand that has 2 speakers, loud and with MP3. If you like to listen to the radio even a little, then definitely choose this receiver and this Tecsun brand. If it seems too expensive and you do not need MP3 and 2 speakers, then take a look at other Tecsun brand receivers, these are PL-310et and PL-606. Smaller size, lower price, the same functionality, quality and assembly, and they do not hang.

Pros
  • Excellent build and Tecsun quality. Stereo sound. High sensitivity. MP3 player.
Cons
  • Large dimensions, less selectivity compared to other Tecsun receivers, poor separation of stereo channels. Outdated AA batteries 3 pieces, you have to charge only in the receiver, since 3 cannot be stuffed into the universal adapter at once. Newer versions of Tecsun switched to 18650 battery which is perfect for it.
