No need to press the button and open the transparent cover to view the time. The transparent cover enlarges the dial and serves as a magnifying glass. The dial is cream colored. The dial glows green in the dark. Although the product description says the watch is water resistant, the 2 pages of instructions say it is not to be submerged in water. The watch has a self-winding function, but when you are not doing gymnastics, the watch in your pocket or bag will not wind up sufficiently. This is a beautiful thing to see inside and out. The metal of the watch case looks like carved antique brass and the moving mechanical movement is visible from the front and back. If you look inside, you'll see gold and chrome details, as well as blue screws and red jewels. I can even see the mainspring through the front glass. Upon unpacking, you will find a small, clear "Made in China" sticker on the rear window. Remove carefully, do not scratch the glass. You can use Ronson lighter fluid to remove stubborn glue on the glass. I think it looks smooth like glass to me, not plastic. I set this up with a solar atomic clock and compared the time accuracy during the day and night. Very accurate for a cheap mechanical watch. It's so cheap I bought another one the next day. Don't tell my wife. The new one seems to be a bit faster than the first. However, they are just as accurate or even better than other mechanical watches I use. The watch is comfortably thick front to back and has a solid weight. It fits comfortably in the small pocket of Levi and Lands End jeans. Note. I haven't tested what happens when you sit for hours in tight or loose jeans. I hope I don't crush him. The chain is color coordinated with the watch case and the metal. This is a mechanical watch with a mainspring, [NOT turning. You could damage the mechanism.] If you feel resistance, stop winding. RECOMMENDATIONS -o For occasional use: WIND Observe stock up to 20 times in the morning (limited). The clock will work accurately all waking hours. o If you use it daily for a week or more: The WIND clock is displayed up to 20 times each morning (limited). WIND AGAIN before bed. The clock works accurately all night and until the morning. REPEAT for all days. Everyone says the time on their phone so no one asks what time it is. Much cooler and sophisticated to carry around and use with pride.
