Review on Silverstone Aluminum Cover Heat Pipe Display by Marcus Barlow

Overpriced Modified Heatsink

Please check your Intel NUC configuration carefully before ordering. I ordered the correct configuration and received the wrong case. On the one hand, I have to commend Silverstone for the overall design of the product. The heatpipe chassis design works well. If your Silverstone case also comes with a fan, this fan harness connects to the existing CPU fan header on the Intel NUC motherboard. What you need to know and understand before you buy as instructions are minimal if included at all. 1. There is no internal wireless connection for your WiFi card. This is optional and must be installed and configured by you.2. You MUST remove the existing Intel NUC heatsink and fan assembly from the NUC.3 motherboard. The Silverstone case's heat pipes are fitted with thermal pads and work very well with or without the addition of thermal paste.4. The start button on the Silverstone chassis is terribly inefficient. If it were shaped like a straw hat LED it would be much better, but it's just a cylinder acting as an extension from the NUC motherboard to the outside of the Silverstone case and nothing is holding it in place. Get your newly assembled case from point A to point B, and chances are you've already lost the power button. Why did I buy the Silverstone Tek Aluminum Chassis? I received a brand new Intel NUC motherboard assembly with no case or accessories. Intel does not sell consumer-level NUC cases. What is my opinion on the Silverstone chassis? If you don't have an existing Intel NUC chassis, the Silverstone chassis is your best bet. If you are considering upgrading from an Intel NUC chassis for Silverstone, this is not the best choice for the reasons above. The Silverstone chassis is NOT a plug and play upgrade of the Intel NUC chassis and is no better than the Intel NUC chassis. In my experience, Silverstone does NOT dissipate heat better (than Intel NUC), but differently. The Silverstone case gets warm to the touch (because the Silverstone case is a modified heatsink), while the Intel NUC case only gets warm to the touch. type because the Intel NUC chassis is just a chassis. Heat dissipation for the Intel NUC is handled by an all-copper heatsink and fan, which I think is much better than running a live heatsink. Just my opinion.

Pros
  • Compatible with Intel NUC
Cons
  • Some Errors
