Unpacks easily. The foam didn't really smell bad, but we did let it air out for two weeks before using it just in case. Bought to use on a very firm queen mattress in a guest bedroom while visiting relatives. The last time I tried to sleep on this mattress I tossed and turned all night for 3 nights with very little sleep. I was on the verge of getting a 2" or 3" version because I'm a tall man at 280lbs and wasn't sure if a 2" version would do. I went with the less expensive 2" which resulted in a marked improvement in the cushioning of the firm mattress. I slept well every night during this visit. It was perfect for the Queen. Didn't move in my sleep. The room had about 73 degrees Fahrenheit and the foam wasn't too hot with just a cotton sheet between me and the foam.I can't comment on the durability of the topper as we don't plan on using it at home as we already have a foam mattress.It cost $65 to get a good night's sleep on vacation for three nights.
