I purchased this item for a gift, so haven't actually used it, but upon inspection it looks well made and good quality. The magnet seems strong enough to me.I guess it would depend on how thick a stack of bills you would want it to hold. My husband wants it for his front pocket and does not like it to be bulky, so that shouldn't be a problem.
