I have had several other Canon cameras and bought this camera for my wife. She likes having a camera that fits easily in her purse, is easy to use, has a decent telephoto lens, and takes decent pictures. The Model 340 meets all of these requirements. It's also lighter than some of their other smaller cameras. I wish Canon had an optical viewfinder, but except for one very inexpensive camera, they're all gone. I also recommend buying a second battery. As another reviewer noted, this camera drains the battery even when not in use. Follow-up: Yes, the battery will die after 3-4 weeks of inactivity. Canon's solution is to remove the battery. A surefire way of breaking open your battery case much sooner than you should. He suggested to Canon that they had active power consumption in the chamber, probably the time and date. Canon has stated that they remove all of their batteries on a daily basis. I dont believe you. I have had several Canons, this is the only model that drains the battery when stored for a short period of time. You want to be able to dress and shoot (the whole point and shoot thing, not battery and shoot. I still like the image quality, size and weight, but I have to downgrade from 4-3 stars ) related to the above issue.
