Do it yourself without experience!

This review is meant to help all other DIY moms. I read every review on multiple websites to determine if this was the right product for my hickory countertop. The island has a sink and I noticed water damage just a few months after installing it. I paid the manufacturer extra for sealing with mineral oil, but that wasn't enough for a daily counterstrike. I don't really have any experience when it comes to DIY and I wanted to hire someone to mail and seal the island for me but decided to do a little research first. This led me to Osmo Top Oil. I watched a few YouTube videos and googled "how to know how to texture wood" and off we went. I had read a few previous reviews mentioning applying this with Scotch Bright White Pads but found it a bit difficult to work with so switched to a brush. Not the natural bristle brush recommended in the manual, but a cheap brush with $1 chips. My results have been amazing. Would they get better with a better quality brush or if I applied Scotch Bright? May be. But I'm so happy with the result. I lightly sanded the entire counter before starting with sandpaper (which I later found out to be the wrong grit) and then wiped everything down with an IKEA kitchen towel. I mean I think this product is so good that it's kind of reliable. I've saved hundreds of dollars by not hiring a professional and am very proud to have done it myself. If you have little to no skill in this area, don't be intimidated, just jump right in!
