Review on MDR-W08L Vertical In-Ear Headphones by Sony by Jamonte Hamilton

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Finally something good again

My very first player, which I bought in 1986, had the vertical in-ear headphones that were common at the time. When they were completely worn out and broken, these types of headphones all but disappeared in favor of "one size fits all" headphones. Since then I've had many more headphones of different types that have disappointed me in one way or another. Ever since I started running again, I've needed good sports headphones. Going through all the other headphones I've collected over the years, I bought some very expensive, very durable, waterproof Sennheiser sports headphones. Which developed a broken wire in several places and literally fell apart due to oxidation. Then I saw these. Ultra light and vertical in the ear. These are really great headphones! It's feather light, so it can't bounce while running. The cable is also lightweight so it doesn't wobble. I attached the headband to an ultra-thin mount to keep the headphones from moving a tenth of an inch. The sound is more than adequate and the headphones are very sensitive, even more so than the others, so there is plenty of room for volume control. I wouldn't classify the sound as hi-fi, the high frequencies are too low for that. But the sound is very pleasant, undistorted, not harsh and with a decent deep bass. A week later I can't say anything about durability, but for €8 I'm happy to consider the headphones consumable and replace them every two months. Too bad Revain limited the purchase quantity to 3. I'll be ordering a few more soon. Good designs are finally back. jlinkelsUPDATE: I've been using these headphones for 5 months now. On average I run 2 times a week. I sweat a lot because of the high temperatures. They are still like new. Incredible value for money. I'm afraid they will soon disappear from the market because they are too good to be true.
