My cats love cubes. I put them together to make a fun tunnel. And yes, Velcro should be sewn inside; The kit has small Velcro strips that you attach to the inside and fold into another cube. It's a really solid product and way better than their old pyramid shaped model which just folded and fell off and closed when they played with it. They still have to bring it down in a month. My parents cat has had the same cube for 6 years and although it has a lot of small claw nicks in the nylon it is still holding up very well.
