I wear 31 waist pants so I ordered a 34 inch belt. It was too short to attach. Before returning I inspected the construction and finish and they were impressive in every way. I will probably order it in a larger size because although the advertised size is slightly different the quality is definitely there. I recommend the belt but also recommend ordering a size up. In my case I will order 38. I'm sure 36 will probably do, but I want to be on the safe side.
