Verdict: A great and comfortable alternative to Sperry nubuck shoes

Verdict: A great and comfortable alternative to Sperry nubuck shoes What's the appeal of boat shoes? They are simple, convenient and practical; They are easy to put on and take off, wear with or without socks (socks can be omitted), and go well with chinos, jeans and shorts. As soon as I unpacked it, I was impressed by the smooth, soft surface of the nubuck leather. . The pile is very light, velvety to the touch and the texture can be appreciated both visually and physically. The structure is particularly strong and the berths are flexible and close to the ground, creating an interesting dichotomy; While I wouldn't go on hikes or exceptionally long hiking day trips in them, they are very relaxed and don't restrict movement compared to Sperry shoes, which tend to be stiffer boat shoes. What does that mean? Great for everyday use and boating, but not so good for walking around Manhattan. The upper and inner lining are made of durable leather with brass eyelets for rawhide laces, thick enough to prevent tearing but not so thick as to prevent easy lacing. The outsole is rubber (compared to cheaper plastic man-made soles). The rubber outsole leaves no traces and is non-slip. The shoe is typically designed for spring and summer and should last a few years depending on the level of abuse. If you're an Earthling, it could easily take a decade. The design isn't overly flashy, so these bad guys will never date themselves in the long run. Better arch support would put them at 5, but be aware this is rare with pumps.

Pros
  • Rubber outsole
Cons
  • Upgradeable
