My daughter saw this and fell in love with it. I bought this as a Christmas present and when it arrived and I unpacked it smelled the worst - like a mix of plastic and chemicals. It was worse than those plastic shower curtains that you have to leave out for more than 24 hours before you use them. I was shocked. Because my daughter loves it so much I try to wash it to get rid of the smell. But I'm worried about how it will hold up as rinsing with cold water as above didn't help. There's no way I'll let her use this if I can't get the smell out. Concerns me about what it's actually made of. UPDATE: I washed it twice in warm water and soaked it twice (washing machine soak cycle: warm water, 1 hour) with vinegar and most of the smell was gone. Sitting and waiting for the packaging seems to have gotten rid of the rest. The quilting pattern, which is not woven but printed, remains intact despite regular washing. YMMV
