Let me start by saying that the hammock is a "clean" trick. It would be fine to just walk around the yard or if you have an RV and are just taking it camping on a summer day. work for me First impression when I took it out of the bag was that the fabric is VERY thin, so thin you can literally see through it. Tailoring is good, the quality of the mesh too. Aluminum shelves are good too. Much better than the fiberglass junk that comes with most cheap tents. It also came with nice 7 inch triangular mounts. After installation, it looks beautiful just like a regular hammock. However, the poles, by design, allow the hammock to remain fairly mobile when you're not in it. As soon as I got in, the hammock sagged so that I was only inches off the ground. In order to raise the hammock to a decent height off the ground while in it, I had to adjust the straps to about head height. I'm 5'11" and 150 pounds. So, I'm average height, not a heavy person. Now problem 1. Using this as a travel hammock means your tarp edge needs to be slightly above head height to accommodate this hammock. And then when you sit in the hammock and lower it to sleeping level, your tarp will be a lot higher than you are, which isn't great if you get caught in a downpour. 2. Thanks to the design of the hammock, the poles keep it straight and give you plenty of space. BUT, this creates a problem with the average quilt. The middle ceiling is not designed to spread the hammock over the entire width. And that's exactly what you need if you want to use this hammock. And no matter how flimsy that hammock is, you NEED some kind of blanket to keep mosquitoes from biting you. So I'm going to be returning this hammock as it's not the kind of hammock that can be used for hiking unless you get a custom UQ to cover it and you don't mind having the hammock on top of yours plan to have. As I said, great idea for lounging, not so good for hiking. This is just my opinion and others may like it. Just not for me.
