Used this on a Route 66 road trip. Since everything else in my gear was USB powered except for my emergency starter, I didn't want to buy a DC for an AC inverter just to power the laptop battery charger and introduce additional inefficiency, so I purchased this item. I never had to plug into an outlet because I could charge it while driving. This power supply is now located in the center console next to the plug in case it is ever needed. The instructions warn you to start the engine first before plugging it in. I heeded this warning and have never had a dead battery in my car or laptop.
