My two teenagers and I volunteer in our community to help with some search and rescue missions. We have to pack a lot of things in our training bags and also be prepared to be called for help by the emergency services. There is not much space for things in our backpack. It's especially handy to have one large item that fills the needs of several otherwise separate items. • Lightweight: Compact, lightweight, yet looks very strong. I assume that this compass will prove itself in our training and field work. • Bright Orange Thread: Makes the compass easier to locate when taken off a person or placed on the ground. The presence of a detachable design makes it safer in case a person gets caught on a brush or falls. The cord is also a good place to attach additional items such as a whistle, flint, and steel. • Folding case: The hard-shell case protects the compass and target mirror. It has silicone feet that allow it to stay on the map for orientation, measurement and marking. • Mirror: Although intended for compass guidance, it also works very well as a signal mirror for communicating with aircraft. or other ground crew members. It would be very handy in a survival situation of hiking, camping, hunting and mountaineering. Like any mirror, it can be used for personal hygiene or self-control. • Straight case edges: transparent, with several different measuring points for calculations and orientation of the distance map. It includes a rectangular protractor for different map scales with sizes in miles (1:24000, 1:25000, 1:50000, 63360) as well as sizes in inches and millimeters. • Magnify Point: Enlarge objects on the map or remove a splinter. Didn't try to start a fire with this, it might not be big enough or strong enough. But maybe I'll just try it out the next sunny day. • Declination Adjustment: Very important when you need accuracy when surveying in azimuth or when searching for a specific location. It was a bit difficult to figure out how to get the customization to work at first, but now it's easy. • Glow-in-the-dark Bezel: The watch face requires very little light to charge and glows brightly in low or no light. bright. Makes it easier to read the compass at night or in the evening in low light conditions. • Inclinometer: This can be very useful when determining the altitude of an object found during a search or how high something is from your location. If you don't have a contour map handy, it can be helpful to share the elevation of the visible feature (cliff, hill) with other team members to share orientation information. • Instructions: Neatly folded on thick paper. should last a long time (if not wet). • Warranty: A five-year warranty gives you peace of mind that this compass will perform as intended. We will practice with this compass to make sure we are very comfortable with all of its features. what would i change I'd like a bright orange fabric, lightweight canvas, waterproof case to store the compass when not wearing it around the neck. I will sew three covers myself to protect the three we have for our family. But the inclusion of a Molle compatible compass or at least a belt loop would make this compass even better. Maybe after a year of use (if I remember) I'll add an update to see how this compass holds up in the field. and stuff the bag full again and again. Overall, I would recommend this compass to anyone who is hiking, backpacking, camping, or anyone serving their communities in search and rescue.
