We've had this track for over a year now and my boys still love it. I'm very surprised that the engine and the traction pads that push the cars have held up so well. The track still starts the cars and my kids still go nuts when the cars crash into each other. The rail is well built and they attach to the base with no breakable parts. This thing got under a drive wheel car and parts of the track just came off with no damage. Mattel makes these splints really durable. This track is powered by C batteries, which should last for many hours of playback. When the cars don't go all the way around the track anymore, or you have cars with old wheels, cars that don't fit well on the ice rinks, or the batteries are running low. Look for cars that say "Track" on the box. They seem to work best with this track. If your kid is sensitive to loud noises, this track will be loud.
