I've used many cat mats to control the spread of dirt, but the ones with little protruding spikes aren't very effective. There are small holes in this design and the dirt gets stuck in it so it doesn't spread. It really works. The price is very good compared to some very expensive rugs that get good reviews. But I'm sticking with it because it works and the price is worth it. You will need two more crates for the other crates in the house. It takes a while to relax after you roll it up, but if you put something heavy on the corners, it will do so in a few days.
