When I first replaced the map lights (above the sun visors) in my 2019 Rav4 they were slightly dimmer than the OEM bulbs. I used my phone in the seat and a light meter app to check, so it wasn't just my perception. So I looked at the headlights and noticed that the Rav4 doesn't have a reflector behind those bulbs. They are simply attached to the clear glass module, which is simply plugged into a hole in the headliner. The light from the LED at the top of the LED, the one on the other side of the bulb, and most of the two LEDs pointing to the side of the hole just didn't go in the right direction. It was actually just light from an LED pointed straight down and coming out of a hole. So I made a foil dome for each light and ended up with more light. Although normal light and without a reflector loses a lot of light. The increase might not have been as significant if I had tried the standard bulb with foil. But now it's whiter and lighter. Although it would probably be brighter if there was a real reflector at the back. When I replaced the two lights in the center overhead console, the increase in light was much more noticeable. The clear plastic lenses are much larger and the bulb is more visible. There is a reflector above the bulb. It went from an unusable light level to a good light level.
