The sole of these boots is made of hard hard plastic. There is no concession in grille design. I was shocked when I pulled them out and felt it. Strange shoe sole material. There is no separate tongue on the shoes. It's all a piece of fabric with laces on top. The color was also very different from what appeared on the internet. Orange looks more like coral online. Personally, it's a bright neon orange. They didn't skimp because the shoes were uncomfortable for my daughter, which is not surprising given the material of the sole.
