I got these back in November. The plastic I had before was just awful. I couldn't get rid of the smell of my last meal (gambo, taco soup) no matter how many times I washed it; the plastic basically soaked it up. It ended up being so bad that when microwaved, the small holes in the plastic began to melt, right where debris had clouded the plastic. These glasses are AMAZING! They wash so well and always smell fresh after washing! I should have upgraded a long time ago. How many sets of plastic containers have I bought over the years only to throw them away after a few months of use? I could have saved so much money if I had just gone with $30 glass instead of $8 plastic. The only minor downside is that silicone rings tend to absorb odors fairly easily. A good soak in some dish soap will usually clean it though, and it's still a lot better than the plastic nightmare. I'm very familiar with this from the pressure cooker, so what I particularly like about this set is that it comes with extra silicone seals! I can switch between seals to keep them fresh without leaving the reservoir idle. Why I bought it twice, I visit my mother quite often and one day she sent me home with a plastic container of gumbo. I tried so hard to get rid of the gumbo smell before handing it back to her but it was impossible. So this year I'm going to give her a set for Christmas too! Goodbye smelly old plastic!
