Review on Autory Radiator Pressure Vacuum Type Cooling by Gene Taylor

Many adapters, not enough, pressure problems

I was happy to find this kit for checking and filling the cooling system whilst servicing 6 cars and a tractor in my immediate family. I borrowed a kit from a friend a few years ago and it worked really well on a 2007 Envoy. Unfortunately, this kit didn't quite live up to my expectations. At first glance it seems exhaustive. However, out of 4 vehicles currently in my garage, only 1 had an adapter and that was a Kubota tractor that is over 15 years old. Of course, you can use a universal rubber cone adapter, but doing it yourself is quite difficult. I tried using it on a 2020 Toyota 4Runner Coolant Reservoir/Overfill as a test. I found I couldn't hold the universal adapter well enough to pump with my other hand. I managed to get about 7 pounds of pressure before it started leaking and lost all pressure because I wasn't holding the universal adapter tight enough. I really think this adapter works better under vacuum. My next stop was a 2017 Duramax diesel truck. Reverse thread fuel cap. There is not a single reverse thread adapter in the kit. I've gone through each of them. You can differentiate it by subject and I show it in pictures. The next try was the 2018 GMC Yukon 6.2L. I tried testing the header first. Now these newer cars have a cap with multiple o-rings and what looks like some sort of valve device inside. I thought it might be pressure tested. There are no adapters in the kit that would fit (there are only two pin adapters). I didn't really feel like it made much of a difference so I looked for a reservoir adapter as this car didn't have a reverse thread like my Duramax. I found it and pasted it. The video shows that the hand pump does not generate any pressure. Thats not good. I switched to a 15 year old Kubota B2630 tractor. The kit included an adapter for checking coverage, which I did. The pressure increases to about 10 pounds but quickly drops to 5 pounds and then slowly decreases to about 2 pounds. Hmmm... bad cap or bad test kit? I cleaned the rubber seal on the lid and tried again. Same result. Considering I've never had a problem with a tractor I'll say the cover is ok and there is a problem with the test setup and I think it's the sealing surface on the male to male adapter, you see in the picture. Pictures. It's probably just not sealing well. My last test was again on a tractor. Pressurize the cooling system with a supplied adapter. You can see it in the photos. I was able to quickly build about 12.5 pounds of pressure with about 2 strokes of the hand pump. He held the pressure for a while. Long enough to ensure that a) the tractor's cooling system is OK and b) the test went well. The only problem I had was the pressure release with the drain valve on the hose. Splashed with coolant. The photo I posted was taken after a cleaning. Maybe I should have expected that, but I didn't think of it. I will be changing the coolant on the tractor in the next few months so I can siphon it off with this kit. In addition, there are no suitable adapters for the other three vehicles in the kit, although all adapters are included in the kit. I'm not sure I really want to play around with a universal cone adapter, although it should work much better in a vacuum. I'll probably try that when the time comes for her. I have three more cars to try but they are with family members. These are the 2007 Envoy, the 2015 Equinox, and the 2019 Traverse. I'm sure there will be an adapter for Envoy. I'm not sure about the other two. Based on that review and what I was able to do with it, I gave this kit 3 stars. The dirt I found in some adapters was easy to clean off, but can cause damage if it gets into your cooling system. With a single adapter that fits the 2018 Yukon, not being able to pressurize was tiring. And not being able to effectively test the tractor's radiator cap under pressure with certainty clouded my vision. Should my opinion change in the coming months while servicing these vehicles, I will update my review.
