The next day I replaced the thermostat and replaced the coolant because thermostats don't usually work well after an overheated steam bath in an engine with the coolant drained. Also, the thermostat may have been the cause of the conditions that caused the drain cock to explode. Keep spares for small things that you can leave in a bad place. V8
