So I bought this scanner for work. It turned out to have "the same specs" as my current scanner, which does its job well but is only the size of a letter. After spending some time "tinkering" with it and getting "baby" scans of it, I called the support number (only found on a CD in the box) and spoke to their technician . Basically: This is NOT for artwork. Their recommendation was to return it, buy the next model (another two hundred bucks or so) and 3rd party software that is incompatible with my current 3rd party software. It comes back because it's no use to me. BUT, if you want text/books/etc. scanning or are not looking for high quality color scans (plain color will do), then this scanner is for you. No, that is not so. Even Plustek says that's not the case. Also, the serial number was not recognized by their website and I never got any confirmation if it was a "legit" Plustek scanner or fake :-/. But they were more than willing to help me. Ultimately, the OpticSlim 1180 is NOT intended for illustrations or really good color scans. They recommended the A320. I don't know what I'm going to do next. I especially don't want to pay too much for a new scanner AND additional 3rd party software that I need to uninstall for my current one (VueScan) to work well. - VueScan and other software (Silverfast) don't seem to get along. and their software too. If you have both on your computer, Silverfast supposedly won't work properly. - I can just sew big pieces together until I have an Epson. I can try the A320 with my current software and see what happens. I do not know.
