I've been using Canon for over 30 years now but after years of online and hands on demo reviews of an intermediate digital camera for my Rebel DSLR I've decided to stick with the Nikon Coolpix S9100 over 2 comparables Canon, Panasonic Lumix and Sony models. The features that influenced my decision were the powerful optical zoom, the ability to take pictures while recording video, the ability to use the wide-angle and telephoto features while recording video, and a decent delay between shots and an acceptable shutter lag. Nikon is only about 2 weeks old, I'm quite happy with this camera, but I understand that this Nikon camera has many more features that are comparable or even superior to bulkier DSLRs. The negative qualities of this camera apply primarily to compact (small) digital cameras, ie tremors in the telephoto range, long shutter lag, delay between shots, limited aperture range from wide-angle to telephoto. While this camera offers more features and apps than I wanted, I'm very disappointed in the lack of a paperback manual that should have been included for the $329 price tag. I believe this Nikon Coolpix model can become the benchmark for future small cameras. digital cameras.
