Review on Refurbished Garmin 101-N1995-03 Large vivosmart 4 Smart Fitness Tracker - Black/Slate by Jeremy Ward

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Great for my secondary use case

EDIT: Downgraded from 4 to 3 stars. It turns out that the vibration on this one just isn't strong enough. I ended up setting a couple of duplicate alarm clocks because I was so worried they wouldn't wake me up and ended up just buying something else. If you don't care about vibrations, this is probably still a good device as it's thin, responsive and has good battery life. But this vibration is just rubbish and ruins my special experience. First Review: I literally bought this for a purpose - I only use it as an alarm clock and bought this Garmin specifically because it was one of the few wearables I could find (it wasn't a watch) that actually gave me one would show schedule / upcoming wake up time on the device itself without having to take out the phone and open the app. I couldn't believe how hard it was to find it. When used as an alarm it's REALLY nice to have a quick check on the unit when I'm panicking and curling up in bed that my alarm may not be set or I changed it the other day and forgot to put it back. Other than that very specific use case, it looks like a good device. Really compact and I like having a "button" on it and not just a screen. It's not a physical button click - still just a capacitive touch with tactile feedback - but it's very useful for menus. The app is fine, but I basically disabled EVERYTHING that wasn't related to the alarm feature. Simply set new alarms in the app and so far synchronization has been fast and reliable. Not so good: I bought this refurbished version to save a few bucks after reading it was refurbished by Garmin themselves - except the unit I received was stuck in some sort of test or diagnostic mode and it literally blew it was impossible to get out of this mode confirmed by Garmin Support. They replaced it for free, of course, and the replacement was mostly painless. It was very disappointing to receive the device in this condition, especially from the manufacturer. I would also have liked the vibration to be a bit stronger. I keep my set at 3 out of 3 and sometimes worry it might not be enough to wake me up. There are no problems yet, but concerns. Also deducted a star because I don't care if the group closes. It's a typical watch style and it's just a little annoying to put on quickly/easy, especially as the material is very light and flexible (which in and of itself isn't a bad thing, just combined with the style of the clasp). I'd rather have something closer to the Apple Watch and others, it's just something of a pin and loop. I also don't think you can switch bands with this device, so I'm kind of sticking with it. The clip on the charger is also a bit of a nuisance, but it seems to click in well and has connected securely so far.
