This was a replacement for my grandmother's early 1900's Spode Blue Italian teapot of the same size. Finally the lid broke, and just before that Mama tapped the tip of the spout. The body, size and cover are exactly the same. I am very happy with this kettle. It is only slightly thicker than the old jug (you would notice this more when working with cups and saucers or plates from the same series). It looks different than I can tell but you must have a mug, teapot or plate marked before or around the 1950's to compare and see that the rendering of the design isn't quite as perfect is. What I mean? While it looks sharper, it loses some of the blue nuances, which is probably the best way to describe it. And it's a bit lighter blue than our pre-1970's designs. It's hard to tell what the old pieces looked like when they were bought as the porcelain is a little gray and maybe the blue too. Be careful opening the box as there is nothing wrapped in it and you don't want the lid falling off (we never managed to find a replacement lid for the old pot). It was fine as other items in my Revain order pushed the Spode box into the corner of the larger shipping box, but if the courier had done something to the box or it had been damaged in transit I don't think the Kettle would have done it. We are so happy with this teapot that I will now look for some of the cups and saucers as some of ours are from the early 1900's as well. I mention how old the other items are as they are genuine family heirlooms now being enjoyed by 4 generations - you can't go wrong with Spode!
