Bought this and external/extended drive for new PS4 (Fantom Drives PS4-2TB-PSHD PS4 2TB High Performance Seagate Firecuda Gaming SSHD (SSD+HDD)) Heavy Duty Aluminum External Hard Drive USB 3.0 Portable Game Drive). After connecting the hub to the device and plugging the new drive into the blue USB 3.0 connector (only the USB connector is used, by the way), I formatted it for use, but the operation failed. The hub cannot communicate adequately. Had to remove the hub and plug in an external drive directly to continue. After successfully formatting the extended drive, I saw no point in using a hub - I knew it just wasn't going to work the way I had envisioned it. A hub may be suitable for "simultaneously charging" devices, but may not use USB 3.0 standards for peripheral communications and power delivery. Of course, the new drive uses bus-powered designs - not from a separate power supply, but I'll never know if that works - or reliably. Hope this solves all problems for others. Good Hunting.
