at least for me. After reading the reviews of the PX312, here are the reasons I settled on this one for a little more money over the PX312: 1. It has an internal USB output that EXPANDS which is great because.2. it can charge rechargeable AAA batteries via USB (the recorder only uses ONE AAA battery, not two in the px312, and the battery that comes with the product is RECHARGEABLE). Combined with (1), this means you can conveniently charge your recorder while transferring recording files to any USB-enabled computer without having to buy a separate charger.3. the ability to edit an existing or custom "scene" (recording area configuration) that the px312 does not have. That means you can set the bitrate, microphone sensitivity, low-pass filter, etc. that works best for you. It also has all the advantages of the px312: ease of use, good sound quality, etc. Very happy with this solution so far.
