Review on πŸ“» Panasonic RF-2400D AM/FM Radio: Enhanced Sound Quality in Sleek Silver/Grey Design by Monique Martin

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Lots of volume for the size, good sound quality FM

I was looking for a radio - and only a radio - to play in unison with another radio while bouncing between rooms in the house. I didn't want to go the bluetooth route, also I was looking for a small portable radio to have on hand during power outages and the like. It seems that the device is no frills. And it's really no frills. The analog tuner dial is pretty rough, plus I'm already used to reading digital tuning gauges, so I had another radio to check which station I was tuned to. If you want to tune your radio to a specific station to be prepared for a power outage, you can see that too. The most impressive quality of this radio is the speaker volume. This contrasts with the overall small size. It's designed to work efficiently and you don't have to turn the volume knob too hard to get a rich sound. The sound quality of FM is good: rich and at the same time crisp and clear. I think that's why I was even more disappointed with the AM sound quality: it's really flat and the signal-to-noise ratio could be better. FM reception quality is mixed. You often have to move the device as it seems very prone to clutter (this is especially noticeable when I'm sitting right next to my computer!). It doesn't help that the antenna can only be adjusted left or right, not 360Β° (like a joystick). Of course, changing the position of the device is not too difficult, it is small and light. The AM reception quality seems to be a bit more stable. What really helps is the LED that lights up when you're fine-tuned (FM and AM). also a replacement device that you want to have ready for the next extreme weather event.

Cons
  • Makes me angry
