Medium density tarpaulin, not heavy building material, but not thin at all. The embroidery is bright and shiny, with no protruding ends. I was able to slip my Paperwhite in the front pocket with two phones and a wallet in the zip pockets. It's great for travel as it fits nicely in my carry-on or can be left out when I need money, ID and boarding passes. I wish I had bought this sooner as I flew more. I wouldn't mind the strap being an inch or two longer, but it will definitely work the way it is.
