USB 3 problems with official drivers. Connection issues

This review is for the AC1900 USB 3.0 adapter. First let me say that the design is very nice and the base is very solid. This is a nice improvement over the Netgear PSU I already have. However, I have encountered issues with the reliability of the USB 3.0 port. When I first started using it, I was able to achieve download speeds to my NAS of 55MB per second (for reference, my old USB 2.0 adapter supports 15MB). It worked fine for about 30 minutes, and then the adapter started to disconnect and didn't work. I finally found out that the drivers I downloaded from their website are causing the problem. I can use the default drivers that Windows 10 installs and the device works fine. However, it doesn't use the full potential speed. So my transfers to my NAS dropped to 25MB per second. This is unacceptable when I know it could be faster. I also give it 2 stars because an issue caused by the driver also caused my 3.0 port on the front of my PC to stop working. I had to power cycle the machine to reset the port and get it working again. This tells me that an adapter with the right driver is overloading the port and not managing power properly. I'm afraid this may damage my computer. I will return it and get another Netgear. My current Netgear was fine, just slow.

Pros
  • Slim design
Cons
  • Long wait time
