Okay, I'm upgrading this to 3 stars because it works well despite the reasons I don't like it listed below. The most confusing thing I set up was enabling wireless printing. ADVICE. A printer and an XPS version of the printer showed up in my printer list. You must select an XPS printer to wirelessly send a job to. I'm still very disgusted with the thin paper tray but I have to say it holds more paper than I expected but is still very flimsy. Because of this cheap tray you have to put it on a totally solid base that is larger than the total footprint of the printer, which I didn't have to do with the old model, nor did I have to use the top paper envelope lining to put it in the bookshelf could use. My old and cheap Canon printer was very compact and I was hoping for the same from this model which looked very similar. I ended up having to keep my old printer to just use as a base to put the new printer on top of because of that flimsy paper tray which is REALLY annoying. However, it works well and the print quality is amazing for these cheap cartridges. I had a similar old model that worked great for my basic document printing needs and preferred to only have one color cartridge and one black cartridge rather than constantly replacing the 4 or 5 cartridges that go with "high quality" photo printers required are. Since my document needs are basic and I never print photos, these cheap cartridges are great for printing black and white or color documents. I bought this one because it's as small as my old one and uses the exact same cartridges I had when the death counter ran out (read below if you're interested in the explanation on the Canon printer's death page). Counter). The boy was disappointed compared to my old, even cheaper Canon. Although this one weighs significantly more, the plastic parts are thinner and flimsy. The paper tray on this one is so fragile it's a joke! I can't imagine that sooner or later it won't break and it's out of warranty because 'I' broke it, when in fact if it breaks it's due to poor design by Canon. I have to pretend I'm "walking on eggshells". The paper tray also holds half as much paper as my old one, and envelopes have to be fed in from the top. One of the things I liked about the old model was that all of the inputs and outputs, including envelopes, were front-loaded and front-ejected, so it fit nicely on a bookshelf with little headroom. It fails in this regard. Envelopes must be fed from the top, so you need 8" of free space. According to some people, this is the thinnest, brittle, and cheapest piece of plastic you've ever seen. As for the death counter, the reason I had to replace my old printer, which was working perfectly, is because after a certain number of prints Canon renders the printer unusable as after a while the ink collector can start to overflow and make a mess. That may be fine, but I'm good at fixing things and although when I started getting ink absorber warnings I had cleaned the ink absorber thoroughly and the printer was working great, it wasn't working any more than the set number was used up by printing. was pressed. I've spent hours on the internet trying to figure out that older Canon models have a way to reset the death counter to zero so I can at least keep using the old printer until I've used up the $40 ink I still have hand. There are no dice. On newer models you can't reset the counter, so you'll have to throw away a perfectly working printer and throw away your supply of ink too! Newer Canon models simply stop when a certain number of prints is reached and there is no way to reset the counter. You get a certain number of prints and that's it. (Think Porky Piglet - that's all, boys). However, after upgrading from one star to four stars, I am thinking of an Epson Eco printer next time.
