This is probably the eighth Canon "pocket" camera I've taken on trips to Europe and the East. I like to keep it in my right pant pocket for instant results. Canon's "image stabilizer" is ideal for getting good pictures even when you are NOT looking at the screen. In fact, I pride myself on taking great shots, even when they SAY "No photos!". I carefully pull out my camera, turn it on, aim more or less in the right direction, carefully take a picture, two or three, and then put it back in my pocket. without looking at the camera. Back at home or in the hotel, I check the "stolen" pictures on my computer, correct bad angles or crop them better. but the pictures are almost always just PERFECT! Try it with your smartphone! Another thing is zooming and real-time video recording. This gem has 12x OPTICAL zoom, no lame 'digital' image degradation to appear closer. It's FAST and sharp. When recording live music or a sporting event, switching from wide to short and back will NOT cause any funny jumps OR AUDIO NOISE in the video! Try THAT with your stupid "smartphone".
