I just bought a new toilet seat and the plastic screws that came with it sucked. The seat fell apart within a week. I knew metal ones existed, but I had never seen a design like this before. Installation wasn't very difficult. I took the seat off completely, unscrewed the screw from the rubber part and then with some skill twisted it and pushed it through the hole. The "ball" should be under the hole and the flared end should be on top of it. After leveling the seat and inserting the metal screw/washer, it was as easy as screwing it in. Didn't even have to hold the rubber under the seat. Just be careful not to overtighten. The seat is VERY secure. It's a shame I didn't know about them earlier.
