I have bought these before because I work, have hobbies and often snack in the living room. But be warned: MANY of them are fragile and will deform when books are placed on them. MANY aren't tall enough to climb past the knee or in my case past the legs and ottoman. (Some barely get off the couch or chair) It's very strong - it's metal. The top is wood colored but hard laminate, no plastic, as is the bottom. The only downside (but not big enough to lose a star) is that it's small. But I measured before buying so I knew how big it would be. I am very happy with the purchase and having used it for a few months now I know it will last me a long time.
