Doesn't work as expected

The remote works well, easy enough to install if you follow the instructions as others have noted. But it doesn't work the way I hoped it would, so thought I'd provide some details in case it's helpful to others. All of my bedrooms are hooked up to ceiling fans, which means two separate "hot" wires run from the junction box back to separate switches on the wall. The fan and light can be switched on and off separately, but the fan speed must be regulated using a pull chain. If you have a similar setup, please note that this remote only accepts one hot input. I originally connected it to both hot wires, thinking this would allow me to control the fan and light output separately, but it doesn't. Once you plug in the remote control, you can no longer control the fan from the wall switch. Basically, this wall switch is used to power the remote no matter what hot wire you connect to the remote. When the wall switch is turned on, the light will turn on automatically, but the fan will always start in the off position. With the remote control you can turn on/off the light, turn the fan on/off and adjust the fan speed. It's all great and good. But when you then turn off the wall switch, both the light and the fan go off. And when you turn it back on, only the light comes on. This may be perfectly normal for most people, but we often leave the fan on during the day when we're not in the room. We're used to just turning off the lights when we leave the room and leaving the fan on. If the remote control is installed, you need to use the remote control to turn off the light if you want the fan to stay on. This means that the remote either has to be near the wall plate or you have to look for the remote every time you want to leave the room, then of course you have to put it down somewhere and find it. again if you want to control the fan. My initial goal was to place the remote on my bedside table so I could turn off the lights when I went to bed, or adjust the fan speed, or set a timer. If I can only control the fan with the remote control and not with the wall switch, the benefit for me is really limited. Perhaps there are other remotes that support independent power inputs for lights and fans. I have to keep looking.
