Review on ๐Ÿงต Gertie's Sewing: A Contemporary Guide to Vintage Sportswear Styles of the 1940s and 1950s - Gertie Sews Vintage Casual by Jennifer Roberts

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I really like this book and am working on the patterns in it.

I love this book very much. It is what it is, making really authentic vintage everyday clothes, apart from some touches, not as far back as the 50's, but it's good. The overlapping zipper information, ideas and pattern layouts you trace from the back are very clear. I know people don't like freehand drawing, but I don't think that's a problem. The heart-shaped knit bodice on pages 150-153 is well made, even if the pins have to be far away. So far I've found switching patterns easy, and assessing the hip-to-waist ratio of widely differing sizes has been easy and reasonable. To this day I have drawn and tried on a pattern for wide trousers in the style of the 40s. I have no problem seeing the correct lines on the tracing paper. I really like that their models come in all sizes and shapes. All in all, this is my favorite Gertie book so far. Next week it will be a book about clothes. I have all of her books and I like them very much.
