They are perfect for a young child. My left handed 4 year old is very interested in crafts. Watching her struggle to cut something last night I realized I hadn't gotten the left scissors for her so she was having a really hard time cutting with the 'right' scissors. I bought them for her (because they are purple!) and she loves them. She immediately got to work, cutting out every design her tiny mind could create (and leaving a devastating trail of paper treats on the floor) as happy as she could be. I sent her a second pair of scissors to kindergarten and immediately noticed a difference in her art projects compared to how easy it was to cut with the new pair of scissors. The blunt end is great and I'm not worried about her doing any real damage to the house (or herself).
