They are definitely smaller - like small decorative cushions. But they are just the right size for my little ones. They seem small in the cradle, but my twins can just toss them aside when they don't want to lie on them, and they're big enough to give them an ample pillow or headrest when they don't feel like walking towards them lie floor. . You're just getting used to sleeping on pillows, so that's spot on. The pillowcases that come with the pillows are made of soft white cotton. I could invest in prettier pillowcases but will wait for the twins to get used to them. The pads were shipped in a thin vacuum bag and quickly expanded once the bag was opened. Delivery was quick and they were well packaged. For what it is I would buy it again.
