Around the same time I bought some Johnston and Murphy shoes that were similar in design. I paid more for J&M shoes and they were clearly inferior to me in every way. They creaked and the skin shriveled as we walked. They are loose and slide a little around my legs. ECCO shoes, on the other hand, fit perfectly, don't squeak and the leather quality is much better. I just rub them down with some leather wax every now and then and they still look great. I have 3 pairs of ECCO shoes that I have bought in the last 3 years. All three different types. All 3 are top quality and very comfortable. As long as they maintain their commitment to quality, they will become regular customers.
