Great system for the price - please read

I have a Zosi 8ch 1080p camera system with a 2TB DVR. Considering the affordable price, I thought this system would be entry-level but probably good enough to monitor my home. I was right; I installed it within a few weeks and am happy with it. I don't need a wifi camera system so I bought this wired system. Cables are more reliable and I don't need 8 or 9 more devices on my Wi-Fi router. I tested every camera and cable before installing anything permanently. The cameras work fine. The resolution is good, but because the lens has a very wide angle, the corners of the image are less sharp than the center. But that's acceptable to me, since the wide-angle lens covers a large area. BNC cables work acceptably, but I found 65 feet wasn't enough. To get to the four corners of the outside of my house (3,200 square feet), I had to buy 100-foot and 150-foot cables from another brand. I've found that both Zosi and aftermarket cables are prone to visible feedback in pictures, especially when the wires are bent near the connectors. I got them all to work acceptably but you get what you pay for. The DVR I originally received was easy to set up and worked fine except it restarted every few hours. Zosi support helped me solve this problem and ended up sending me a new dash cam for free. This solved the problem. They're helpful and responsive, but they're based in China so emails are usually dealt with within a day. Viewing recorded footage works but isn't intuitive. There are many unlabeled symbols that need to be sorted out. But it works. The app works, but is a bit cumbersome. Every time I open it outside of my home wifi I have to tell it to connect to the cameras. At first, the app couldn't detect cameras outside the home. Zosia had to help me configure the dashcam and router settings (like turning off the firewall!) to make it work. Now it works reliably. Again, you get what you pay for. There's also a desktop application for viewing cameras, but it's only downloadable via the included mini-disc (what's that, 1999?) and only shows the footage in low-resolution. But it works. Overall I'm happy with this system for the price. I can watch my home live at home on my TV, on the go on my phone, or via replay later. A high-end professional system would cost several thousand dollars. This system meets my needs and can be used by any homeowner or small business.

Pros
  • Handsfree
Cons
  • Very expensive
