My head circumference is 22 inches which was technically medium, in the upgraded (more expensive) adult balaclava it was too big. and unfortunately it doesn't work well. My first experience with this item was transplanting from Hawaii to Michigan, so trust me when I tell you I don't like those harsh winters. It turns out that this child size fits well and covers my ears and neck. nice bonus in these Covid days, it's totally useful as a handy 'mask' when I have to go indoors with the public... I'm very happy with this purchase as I continue my daily 5 mile walks can more colors. 2 for $20, what a bargain!
