My ears are very sensitive to metals, even pure silver and gold. After reading the reviews of these surgical steel earrings I decided to try them. In addition, the price was unbeatable. The metal on the earrings looks rather matte so they really aren't that shiny. The backs that hold the rivets in place are a little difficult to put on at first, but that's okay. I decided to keep the earrings and wear them as long as possible. The first night I wore them to bed I had a slight irritation but not so much that I wanted to take them off. The second night was a little better. Anytime I had irritation, I would wipe the earring with alcohol. In the third and fourth night there was practically no more irritation. I kept putting them in my ear and now, two weeks later, I don't have any irritation at all. I love my earrings! I think the key to avoiding irritation is to leave them on so your ears can get used to them. If you keep taking them off, your ears will have to readjust each time you put them on. So I think these are excellent earrings for very sensitive ears.
