They clean well but hold a lot of dirt that is difficult to remove. I think this is a problem with all steel wool gaskets. I let it soak in water and dish soap overnight to remove most of the residue and get additional benefits. I find they work better than Brillo or SOS pads on dried deposits. I use them on my glass top, in the oven and on my outdoor grill. After a few uses, they lose their compact shape and look like a tuft of metallic hair. Not very attractive but you can still use it so I keep it under the sink/grill or in my garage for various future uses. Despite the loss of shape, I had no trouble finding loose parts. from steel wool. I have used more expensive pads that hold their shape longer but these will suffice for the price.
