Our TV's original light bulb, which lasted nearly six years, eventually burned out with a hiss and crackle. Climbed onto the Internet, read reviews about this model. We tried it and two days later, on Saturday, a new bulb came. The bulb itself comes in a case (black plastic) which is great because you can easily swap out the elements entirely. Installation was easy - my old lamp housing used hex head screws, but a replacement conveniently came with Phillips head screws (we spent some time looking for those hex keys to get the old one out). Installation took no more than five minutes and the TV shone beautifully, like new compared to when we first bought the TV. This replacement lamp is really worth it and we are confident that it will last at least another 4-5 years. EDIT 12/13/12. The lamp still works, no problems with the damping. However, the tv has a warm tone, not sure if it's just a tv or a lightbulb. (This is only noticeable when a laptop is plugged in, so we're assuming it's an input.)
